Vasastaden is a district in Stockholm's inner city that was named in the 1890s after Vasagatan, which was inaugurated in 1885 with Gustav Vasa as its inspiration. Its official name was not given until 1926. One of Vasastaden's most famous buildings is the City Library, which opened in 1928 and houses 40,000 different books. Another well-known building is the Gustaf Vasa Church, designed by Agi Lindegrens, who usually designed castles, which may explain the 60 meter high dome.
